Dear Senators, What the F*** is going on?!?
I have no words except to ask why in the name of the hockey gods didn't the team trade Mike Hoffman before all the shit hit the media? Seriously, how the hell are they expecting to trade that type of insane drama*, and how the hell do they expect to resign Erik Karlsson after that sort of horrific life and workplace experience?
I was honestly hoping before this broke that the Sens could resign Karlsson but if its true that Hoffman's fiance** was making derogatory comments online about his wife and stillborn child than I'd rather they didn't. He's a free agent, a future Hall of Famer, and someone who can help any of the 32 teams in the league so he'll get to choose to sign wherever he wants. Hopefully it can be in a spot where he and his family feel secure and appreciated.
At least they don't have any other scandals right now....oh, wait, this is the Sens after all. Anyone know a potential assistant general manager they can hire? They're going to need one if the sexual harassment claims have any truth to them.
Ei yi yi! The off-season signings window hasn't even started and the upcoming season's pretty much doomed already. I mean seriously, how does my team go from a deep playoff run one year to becoming the NHL's answer to the Cleveland Browns the next?
*No general manager is going to offer anything of any great value for him, so essentially a 26 goal scorer can be had for peanuts. Assuming of course any general manager is stupid enough or desperate enough to take on that type of crazy. I know I wouldn't, and more to the point I can't imagine any ownership group being that dumb either.
**If this is true (and the fact Karlsson's wife took out the Canadian equivalent of a restraining order against her makes it legitimately possible) then Hoffman might have to make a serious choice of whether he wants to continue a professional hockey career or marry this person. He's talented but he's not so talented that he's worth the risk of that sort of locker room and organization drama. There are better, younger, less expensive players out there who don't carry that sort of baggage.
