Well it's a start
Mar. 22nd, 2011 12:40 amAccording to TSN, Matt "I like decapitating other hockey players" Cooke of the Pittsburgh Penguins has been suspended for the rest of the regular season and round one of the playoffs. Considering his track record of trying to grow the market for wheelchairs its about freakin' time he sat for more than a game or two.
That said I'm not sure the NHL is turning any corners here. I'll save my praise for when a star player gets 10+ games for a headshot, not just a career third liner who's likely to be buried in the minors next year for embarrassing his team like this.
And in further NHL news the Goldwater group continues to oppose public taxpayer dollars being used to fund a professional sports team that hemorrhage's money year after year like water sprayed upon desert sand. Newsflash to the NHL - the desert is a ridiculous place to put a hockey team. There is no grassroots involvement with the sport and the fan base down there is never going to make this worthwhile. It's time to admit that this experiment has failed and put the Coyotes/Jets franchise back in Winnipeg.
Oh, and while you're at it, NHL, please fire Bettman. When a grassroots taxpayer group shows a more realistic and nuanced understanding of the business side of hockey than the Commissioner you know things can't be going good.
