Me (Walking home in a blizzard):     Take it easy sir. You don't want a heart attack.

Elderly Man (Shoveling his driveway for the 9th time in the last two days):   I'm getting too old for this shit.

Me (Pausing to stop and consider this):     I am so blogging that.


In other news my street now looks like a set from "The Empire Strikes Back", my feet are cold, and apparently Bell Telephone drivers consider clearing three inches of snow off of their windshield to be optional before putting the van in drive.

The last time we had snow, a couple of weeks ago, I saw someone down the street actually using some sort of modest flame-thrower device in his driveway. I was driving past so I couldn't stop, marvel and ask him how effective it was. How many passes must you make over several inches of snow, eight feet by twenty, before you've melted it? Or is the intention merely to soften the stuff enough for it to be a doddle to shovel?

That's really interesting. I'm not sure how well that would work though. I'd be worried the snow would just freeze back into glare ice, or that I might light one of the nearby (and very flammable) pine trees alight. Sounds visually impressive though!
