[livejournal.com profile] padawansguide posted a fun little music quiz so I decided to throw my own list into the fray. Due to the length of all this I've tossed it behind the cut:

Just a few things I should say. I wouldn't say these songs are my "favourites" or songs I think are the absolute "best". They're just songs that answer the question nicely and are tunes I think people will like to check out, especially if they haven't heard them before.
As a warning I'm linking to some live videos so some performances might not be safe for work, but all are safe for partying! So without
further ado lets enjoy some tuneage!
01. a song that makes you want to fall in love

"Tangerine" by Led Zeppelin.  Not only is a it a beautiful love ballad by one of my all time favourite bands, but its a lot of fun to play on
guitar as well. :-)   http://youtu.be/LyM4vxxu2jA

02. your favorite pump up song

"Highway Star" by Deep Purple.  The best track on "Machine Head" and an immortal classic. And the organ and guitar solos Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore do are not too shabby either.   http://youtu.be/UNQKf-JIPVI

03. your favorite song to rock out to

"Powerslave" by Iron Maiden http://youtu.be/0NYiOHGapRk segueing into "Creeping Death" by Metallica. http://youtu.be/lXWq3f01e2U They match up well thematically and make for an impressive number that builds in intensity. And on a completely irrelevant note I love Dave Murray's solos in "Powerslave". That tone he gets out of his strat is so sweet it gives me diabetes. Mmmmmmmmm!

04. a song that reminds you of summer

"Its the End of the World as we Know it" by REM or Great Big Sea. Either works since this song was the final song of the end of week
dance at a summer camp I was a program head at. We always changed the lyrics from "its the end of the world" to "its the end of camp
(number)" when singing it. Good times, good memories. http://youtu.be/K71UbC1EaSE

05. your favorite cover of a song

"All Along the Watchtower". It's originally a somewhat mediocre Bob Dylan tune that was reworked by Jimi Hendrix into a rock classic. This version here though is by the Dave Matthews Band and is also very good. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/fOaMQ-R9YGM

05b. A favourite original of a song that's probably better known through a cover

"Lovers in a Dangerous Time" by Bruce Cockborn. It's better known as a Barenaked Ladies song but if you haven't heard Cockburn do it its well worth the listen. http://youtu.be/NKjgJ3oLJqE

06. a song you sing in the shower
"Why We Build the Wall" from "Hadestown" by Anais Mitchell. I'm loving this musical and its nice to have something in my vocal range other than Crash Test Dummies songs and "This Jesus Must Die" from Jesus Christ Superstar. :-p   http://youtu.be/iAgiK07Py9M

07. a song that reminds you of someone

"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. Anything by Pink Floyd reminds me of my late uncle, and you can't get a more appropriate tune than this one. Rock on Mike, whereever you are. I miss you everyday. :-)   http://youtu.be/3j8mr-gcgoI

08. what you want your wedding song to be

"45 Years" by the late, great Stan Rodgers. One of the most important musical artists Canada ever produced and gone far too soon. :(   http://youtu.be/ZrGDoDloD1M

09. your favorite 90s/2000s song

Lets just say I really liked the whole MTV Unplugged concept so with that in mind let's get Eric Clapton in the game with "Layla"

10. a song to heal a heartbreak

I don't really know if anything can heal my heartbreaks, let alone a song, but "Turn! Turn! Turn!" by The Byrds is all about healing. Its
as good an entry as any I guess.       http://youtu.be/pKP4cfU28vM

11. your favorite song from a girl group

"The Queen and the Soldier" by Suzanne Vega. Ok, she's a solo artist and not a girl group, but this song is awesome so there you go. Why has she not had a bigger career?     http://youtu.be/zo4bbcvOE-0

12. a song you know all the lyrics to

"C'est Moi" from "Camelot". I played Lancelot in my high school production, so yeah, that's why. I'm not this good though! :-)   http://youtu.be/TdrEmZ35fxc

13. your favorite oldies rock song
"Silhouettes" by Herman's Hermits. What can I say? I love Herman's Hermits. :-)     http://youtu.be/UrBYFFDTwio

14. a song by your favorite artist

"Subdivisions" by Rush. I don't really have a single favourite artist, just several whose body of work I greatly respect and enjoy. This tune by Rush is probably the first tune of theirs I ever heard due to the video getting heavy airplay on Much Music. It's also one of the few songs I feel comfortable doing backup vocals while playing it on guitar. Yeah, I'm not that good at singing while playing. *hangs head in shame*     http://youtu.be/EYYdQB0mkEU

15. a song that you like to fall asleep to

"The Robots" by Kraftwerk. I actually can't really fall asleep to music but the entire "The Man Machine" album is a favourite of mine to
just relax and chill out to. Some times I just want music that brings me down without being depressing and this fits the bill nicely.

16. a song that makes you feel invincible

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. Is it delta blues so heartfelt that trains derail themselves when they hear this Dave a-
coming? Jazz so cool that time itself decides to Take 5? Or are we looking for something that Conan the Barbarian would listen to after a long day of murder and pillage?

Actually lets go with that last concept and play a video of a garage band getting blitzed and beating the hell out of some LARP'ers with
the usual predictable results. Here's Red Fang "Prehistoric Dog" for your listening and drinking pleasure. What? You already know I have a warped sense of humour. This type of list just gives it an opportunity to shine. :-p   http://youtu.be/VufilzHKTqk

17. a song that makes you feel better when you’re down

Just about anything from Wierd Al Yankovic, the Epic Rap Battles of History, the Arrogant Worms, Dread Zeppelin, Monty Python, The Kids in the Hall, Spinal Tap, Dethklok, Steel Panther and other groups like that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a good laugh (or a head shake and eye roll) backed up by awesome music. With that in mind the latest earworm is "Party in the C.I.A." by Wierd Al.

18. your favorite holiday song

"Old Toy Trains" by Nana Mouskouri because its just freakin' beautiful. Seriously, just buy her Christmas album now so that I don't
have to track you down and waterboard you Wierd Al style. You'll thank me later. http://youtu.be/8fATimuKuiM

19. a song that is from a genre of music you don’t usually listen to

I don't tend to listen to a lot of hip hop or rap but "Lose Yourself" by Eminem is a well done song that's enjoyable to listen to.

20. a song you associate with your favorite book

"I Know Your Out There Somewhere" by The Moody Blues. This song and a few other Moody Blues tunes were in heavy rotation on the radio when I first read "Watership Down" as a kid so in my mind they are the soundtrack to this novel. I think this song really syncs well with Fiver's feelings when Hazel goes missing.     http://youtu.be/cjImFYf2Vzc
Well there you have it. Hope you enjoy! :-)
