I just read that US presidential candidate Scott Walker feels that a wall to secure the US border from Canadians is a good idea and I fully agree.

Building a wall to keep Canadians from invading the US stimulates both the US and Canadian economies (the US through the money they spend on construction and maintainence of a 5000+ mile defensive line against an ally, Canada's by making cross border shoppers feel unwelcome, making them spend their money here instead of in dangerous lawless border wastelands like Northern Michigan (where consumer goods are often attractively cheaper and the people are disarmingly nice), protects America from uniformed Canadian forces (like NORAD, NATO, and hockey players), and gives us Canadians a 'beyond the wall' badass street cred typically reserved for the Mongol hordes, Picts, Jutes, and Game of Thrones characters.

Most importantly when the Zombie Apocalypse breaks out it will slow down the escape of Americans into Canada, turning the northern states into a private buffet that we won't be invited to thereby giving us time to high tail it into the frozen tundra. And the best part?

Since there is no way in hell Canada will pay for it we get all these benefits for free!

You do realize that 90% of you live within 100 miles of the US border, right? And the hockey players are scary - I've seen people in Arkansas with more natural teeth left!

...I'm just trying to picture the amount of wall needed just for Alaska and Canada and....no. Just no.

I do get the where the idea came from with some of the 9/11 hijackers and other terrorists coming through the Canadian/US border but we've been able to stop and capture most since then because of the increase in surveillance and cooperation between the two countries.

Actually before I reply none of the 9/11 attackers came through Canada. They all entered the US directly with visas that had been issued by the United States. I know that line gets repeated a lot but its been shown that wasn't the case. I'm not trying to be a jerk on that point since it was a truly horrific event but for Canadians its very important that whenever that urban legend comes up that we set that record straight because of the negativity it naturally causes. I'm not saying that Canada has never had terrorists who have looked to strike at the US from here because that would be inaccurate but Canada had no involvement in 9/11 beyond the NORAD response, hosting lots of landed flights, and being outraged at the attack on a friend.

Here's a link to the Washington Post about this from 2005. It just goes to show how deeply that misconception has dug in and the frustration it causes.

Getting back to the wall idea the humour from my perspective is that its really hard for many people, and I'm sure Governor Walker is one of them, to wrap their head around the cost in money and resources such an endevour would cost the US. You clearly get that there are probably better uses for the finite resources of the United States than guarding land borders that are more likely to kill an amateur infiltrator than help conceal them.

Seriously if I tried to get into the US through the terrain here your border security would be looking at recovering my corpse instead of arresting me. Fast currents and cold water make a better border than any wall ever could.

And as for hockey well its more a mindset than a sport really. Even if you're playing road hockey without body checking you're still going to get a frozen tennis ball to the face with the velocity of a line drive a couple a times a year. I'm certain one of those shots that I shook off when I was ten would be considered a concussion nowadays. Isn't medical progress awesome? :-p

That and the wildlife. Wolverines, elks, moose, bears, and a few other critters large and small that will happily view you as either an enemy or food.
