Brings back some bittersweat memories

sarahbellem made a great point that "Mezzos get the best songs" in musical theatre, which is pretty true actually. So in a fit of wanting some good bass/baritone centric singing I found this lovely version of "The Soviet Machine" from "Chess".

It does bring back some bittersweet memories though that I'm not going to go into. Let's just say my university drama group asked me if I'd like to be one of the Soviet entourage singing backup on this tune but that I felt my heart could only heal in a swimming pool that year rather than on a stage. For the record though their production was awesome. :-)

I love Chess - such a great musical! I saw a local production of it a couple of years ago and they did such an amazing job with it. Actually it's the only time I've ever seen it, but I was super impressed with their production design and the performance in general. Not like it was amateur theater, but it wasn't Broadway either - so I love it when you come out of a production like that being totally wowed.
