I know some people may be wondering "Geesh Dave. You really have no respect for the Conservative Party of Canada at all. What makes you better than any random candidate they have? They are the pride of their party. You're just a fat, old, pathetic, underachieving, unlovable loser."

To which I must reply "That may all be true. But at least I'm house broken."

D: At least we have terrible people in politics in both our countries? My sympathies. I'm pretty sure Trump is still worse??

I honestly do think you have it far worse than we do because of the unending electoral cycle and insane ocean of money your system is drowning in. From the outside looking in I'm not really comfortable calling the US a democracy right now. Since its the people with the biggest wallets calling the show its really more of a plutocracy. What's disturbing to me is that too often the Conservatives have been looking south to that system and saying "That's what we want for Canada". Long expensive elections. Electoral laws that are weak and meaningless that can be violated with impunity. Budgets presented first to business groups instead of in Parliament. And finally rhetoric like "If you don't support this government, you support child molesters" or "If you even consider boycotting Israeli goods to protest actions of the Israeli government, we'll charge you under hate speech laws".

I suppose you could say I don't vote for Conservatives because I have basic standards that they don't even feel they need to try to meet. That's the real tragedy here and its the tragedy you and your fellow Americans are living right now. Trump maybe a horrible human being, Rob Ford may be an oafish baffoon, and this guy in the video above, well ok that guy is still out there in wierdsville, but my point is they are the politicians that North America deserves because we've grown lax in holding them to the basic standards. The fact that the US is in a worse place is nothing to gloat over, its something to be terrified of and to work actively to prevent happening up here.

I'll get off the soapbox now. :-)
