Wow. A Congresswoman has been assassinated

I just checked on CNN and apparently Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head at a constituents meeting today. Sadly, it appears that she has died of her wounds.

Since this is literally breaking news as I type this I don't want to get into supposition and rumour creation. I don't know who did this or why. Its possible it was a violent right winger who felt that, as a Democrat, Ms. Giffords wasn't worthy to live but  it could just as easily have been a radical Democrat who felt she hadn't gone far enough. It could have been an act of Al Queda inspired terrorism. It could have been a disgruntled former employee, or a maladjusted student at the local high school. It could also be the work of a person so mentally ill they honestly thought they were shooting aliens invading earth. The fact is at this time we don't know "WHY", we only know that someone has been shot and killed.

And that is bloody tragic, regardless of one's political leanings.



Additional Info:  Apparently CNN is getting conflicting reports so its possible that she is still alive but in surgery. Aside from being hopeful she will survive I think it illustrates why I'm not giving any opinions on who did this and why.

It's horrible. A couple of years ago our minister of foreign affairs was stabbed to death and in 1986 our prime minister was shot. Even if they hadn't been on what I consider the good side, which they were, it still is a tragic and shocking thing.

We've been so lucky to avoid that type of thing here. Our most memorable Prime Minister security risk in the past two decades was when a protester got through the security detail for our prime minister. Thankfully he wasn't armed and our PM was able to grab him by the throat (literally) before throwing him to the Mounties. As you've said though that type of threatening and dangerous behaviour is never justified. We have ballot boxes and mature democracies. Shooting political figures is just terrorism, plain and simple, no matter what side the person is one.

Apparently CNN may have found the suspected shooter's Youtube site. If it is him...well, read this stuff for yourself. If it doesn't make any logical sense its not because Swedish is your first language. Trust me, it doesn't make any logical sense in English either.

Latest news in the UK had a press conference with one of the surgeons. Apparently Gabrielle has gone through surgery and is in a criticial condition - is in intensive care.

Stupid media were asking questions such as "Is she concious?"

Doctor: "Considering you were declaring her DEAD in your initial reports, you tell me! I got work to do on this woman's brain!"


Sweet Christopher! What are some people thinking...and I don't mean the media. I'll be really interested in finding out who did it and "why".

They may have found the alleged shooter's Youtube sight, and after reading it the first thing that comes to my mind is that the poor kid you helped a few months back is 10,000% more sane and stable than this guy.

My, that kid seemed to have some serious issues... mainly with logic.
I most say that incidents like this do make me wonder about what on earth is happening in the US... scary times.

I live just across the border from the US and if I said I wasn't worried about their political climate over the last decade or so I'd be lying.
